Conservation of Marine Turtles in the Mediterranean Region Phase I
Beach assessment, awareness raising and turtle trade (SPA/RAC )
- Coastal exploration for the identification of potential areas for marine turtle nesting along the Mediterranean Egypt coast.
- Evaluation of the quality of beaches for marine turtle nesting (known and/or new sites) identification of suitable beaches, threats and pressures.
- Collect samples from nesting female/stranding turtles for genetic and isotope analysis.
- Organization of awareness campaigns about the conservation of marine turtles, the illegal trade and interaction with fisheries on the main coastal cities (beaches, schools etc.)

Activities
- Monitoring of known nesting sites & Exploration of new beaches to identify possible new nesting sites.
- Set up a new national stranding network and collect stranding data.
- Assessment of the implementation of the National Action Plan for the conservation of sea turtles in Egypt.
